New Starlight Baptist Church
3710 Martin Luther King Drive, Detroit
6-8 pm
Following the "signature event", we went to New Starlight Baptist Church, where the pastor, Rev. Corey Chavis, had been kind enough to invite us to speak to the members of his local community. The attendees first heard from Adisa Chaney, Community Liaison from the Skillman Foundation's Good Neighborhoods program. He was followed by Ebony Johnson from TechTown, who spoke on the various resources TechTown presents for entrepreneurs. Next up was Charlene Turner Johnson, a Minister with CTJ Executive Ministries, Inc., who gave the audience an overview of the resources available from the city and the state for enterprise development by the faith-based community. Then C2BE Executive Director Deborah Groban Olson introduced our featured speaker Mikel Lezamiz. After the presentations Rev. Chavis spoke on his vision for a network of cooperatives in the local community, and the led a spirited discussion of potential new businesses that the attendees were interested in forming or patronizing in the community.
