Biography

A native Detroiter, Leonard Grossman was raised in the metropolitan Detroit area, and attended public schools in Saint Claire Shores. He served with the 94th Infantry Division in France, Luxembourg and Germany during World War II. He received a B.A. in 1947 and a Bachelor of Letters and Law in 1950, both from the University of Michigan. He has been self-employed since then as a real estate developer, and has been active in the American Civil Liberties Union, being a past President of the Metropolitan Detroit Branch and the State of Michigan. He is also a founding member of the Maurice and Jane Sugar Law Center, a board member and President of the West Bloomfield Board of Education, and a board member of the Fund for Equal Justice.

Leonard is married to the former Audrey Buckner, has five children who religiously send their checks home the first of the month and nine of the most adorable grandchildren one can imagine.
