1995 – 2002 Store Manager - Marshall Field’s
  • Overview: Profit and Loss responsibility for store with $50 million in sales, $7 million controllable operating budget. Managed leadership staff of 16 and non-exempt staff of 300 union, 100 non-union. Reduced store expense dollars below budget every year.
  • Financial: Identified financial and process opportunities as Finance/Audit team leader for $500 million region. As member of Corporate Finance team, determined expense reduction and ROI opportunities for total company, eliminated reports and streamlined management information systems. Lead audit team to measure peer group compliance to accounting regulations, operational procedures and best practices. Trained peers on process improvements to accomplish expense savings goals and to maximize ROI.
  • Human Resources: Implemented semi - annual review process including contractual and non-contractual increase procedures. Established staffing models by individual dept, including skill sets, job descriptions, hiring, training, and wage administration. Mentored Director level leaders, giving feedback to direct supervisor on peer development, using Leadership models e.g. Myers Briggs and 360° feedback in developmental processes.
  • Negotiating: Contract negotiation team with UAW fiscal years 2000 and 2002. Implemented contractual agreements in conjunction with Company Human Resource policies and procedures.
  • Facilities Management: Managed 350,000 square foot facility including, capital expense, equipment, HVAC, security, housekeeping, maintenance, and health and safety. Direct liaison with insurance representatives, government compliance officers, and corporate legal Department.
  • Community: Business Advisory Board; College of Lifelong Learning, Wayne State University. Marshall Field's Community Service Award 2002.
1990 - 1995 Assistant Store Manager Operations and Building Services
  • Financial - Controlled $20 million budget in location with over $100 million annual sales.
  • Information Management: Updated systems and processes in conversion from independent company to division of Target Corporation including conversions of computer servers, point of sale computers, payroll systems, staffing systems, inventory systems, and accounts payable.
  • Facilities Management: Renovated 450,000 square foot physical plant over eighteen months while remaining open for business, coordinating contractors and fixture movement with store marketing and merchandising.
  • Other Responsibilities: Expense, zero based budgeting, delivery, warehousing, security, maintenance, technology, safety, housekeeping, inventory control, credit, cash, leased businesses and cost business profit and loss.
