Pingree Detroit is a start-up social enterprise under the leadership of Jarret Schlaff. Pingree employs homeless veterans in Detroit to create high-end footwear and accessories made of recycled and environmentally-conscious materials under their Detroit Boots line. Their aim is to pay a living wage and reimagine what it means to wage a living. C2BE is supporting Pingree in developing its business as an employee-owned cooperative by assisting with business strategy, marketing, co-op governance, and funding. C2BE also helped Pingree connect with manufacturing and design talent and created an innovative investment product that is enabling Pingree to attract investors by promising a fixed rate of return without sharing a equity in the business.
